Image stabilization works well, helps indoors.
Shutter lag in this mode is 0.88 second, provided it has a good target and sufficient light to focus. I also like that the E-3 has a slightly better grip area on the left of the camera, for better two-hand control when working the menu and looking at photos.
The image is softer overall, however.

You won't get exactly what you see, because of shutter lag, but it's pretty close. However, without the camera's ability to survive in conditions that would render other models useless, the Olympus 770 SW would be just another decent, but not outstanding, snapshot camera.

Well, if you forget to close the manually operated viewfinder shutter, your photos will be underexposed because stray light entering the viewfinder eyepiece as you hold the camera away from you to see the LCD is "seen" by the exposure sensors. Using the AF assist, which consists of pulsing the pop-up flash, I had better success focusing, but it took a lot longer, with several bursts of illuminating flash that's pretty annoying to those around, especially the subjects. In bright sunlight, we found that reducing the contrast to -2 in the Normal mode kept shadows from clipping too badly, but highlights were still too strong.
Olympus FE-180.
Having to cycle through the mode button to switch from standard Record to Digital image stabilization mode, and then having to push the button again to reach the Scene mode menu is something most people can get used to, but the multiple button pushes, as well as the separate menus, added a little extra frustration to camera navigation. I had a few problems locating and pressing the Zoom, Mode, Playback, Menu, and Print/share controls because each button is identified only by a small, white painted word or icon.
Focus issues.
Dave had to focus on the background and shoot at f/8 to keep it all in focus, and still the images were soft (we've noticed overall softness in most images, but it responds well to unsharp masking). At this point we can't comment on image quality, because what we saw wasn't final, but overall mechanical performance was quite good.

As I said with the Olympus E-330, any camera that has auto modes should have a pop up that the camera can activate when necessary. It will serve as the One-touch white balance button; it can be made to take a test picture that isn't saved to check things like white balance and depth of field; it can activate "My Mode," quickly switching to your previously saved settings; and finally it can drop you into Live View mode momentarily to give you the Live Preview without committing you to the mode altogether.

Though you need to use the lens hoods for best quality, the E-510's flash doesn't pop up high enough to clear even the small hoods of these two kit lenses. Its small size and light weight let me take it along more often, and it was nimble and easy to adjust to my needs.

SuperSonic Wave Filter cleans dust from sensor. Many compact and sub-compact cameras are deemed ready to "go anywhere" because of their size, but the Olympus Stylus 770 SW takes that descriptor to a whole other level.

It was pretty easy, just set the mode and press the button. If you plan to use the camera underwater, you may want to purchase an adjustable wrist strap to help prevent it slipping off your wrist when you're swimming.
Olympus D-510 Zoom.
On one hand, the Olympus E-410 is cute, quick, fun to shoot (used with Live View off), and stows easily. On the back three buttons that are not on the E-410: the IS (image stabilization), Fn (Function), and AF point selector button.

This is the mirror that you first see when you peer into the Olympus E-330's optical viewfinder. Digital SLRs can't show a live image on an LCD simply because there's a shutter and mirror in the way of the sensor, directing all the light instead to the optical viewfinder.

Though it has the great lens and full-auto modes, it too often fails to serve up accurate exposure and white balance indoors where consumers take a good portion of their pictures. Bottom line, though, is that image quality is not this camera's strong suit; the Olympus 770 SW's rugged build is where it shines.

Full autofocus shutter response is sluggish by current standards. Most amateurs wanting a live preview will do better sticking to Live View A, closing the optical viewfinder's shutter, and forgetting the Olympus E-330 has an optical viewfinder.
